contractor certification
Salus Certification provides cost-effective contractor certification to contractors working across building services.
At Salus Certification, we help contractors showcase their commitment to safety, quality, and compliance through our straightforward certification process.
We offer two membership levels—Bronze and Gold—both assessing key areas like health and safety policies, insurance coverage, trade competency, and financial stability.
The Bronze membership is ideal for contractors handling projects up to £25,000 or those specializing in up to two trade categories. For contractors managing larger projects exceeding £25,000 or involved in three or more trade categories, the Gold membership provides a comprehensive evaluation, including additional assessments in environmental and sustainability practices, as well as the capability to coordinate subcontractors effectively.
Achieving Salus Certification not only enhances your professional reputation but also streamlines pre-qualification for tenders and client contracts.
Our experienced team is dedicated to guiding you through each step, ensuring a smooth and supportive certification journey.

Application Process
Each membership has four main areas of assessment:
Health & Safety
A full evaluation of the contractor’s Health and Safety policies, procedures, processes or other requirements that fulfils the accreditation standard as established by the Safety Services in Procurement Forum (SSIP).
Insurance
The contractor will need to demonstrate compliance via:
- Public Liability Insurance – the contractor has current public liability insurance in a minimum amount of £5million for each occurrence, and;
- Employer’s Liability Insurance – the contractor has current employer’s liability insurance in a minimum amount for each occurrence which complies with statutory requirements.
Trade Competency Evidences
The contractor will need to demonstrate sufficient evidence of competency in their trade area. An outline for each category will be available soon.
Financial Credit Check
The contractor has a satisfactory credit score from a recognised credit reference agency.
Members with Gold membership will need to show further compliance in the following areas:
Health & Safety
An evaluation of the contractor’s Health and Safety capability to act as a principal contractor to co-ordinate the work of sub-contractors. (If required)
Environmental & Sustainability Checks
The contractor acts in a responsible manner and is observant of key environmental requirements.
Please check for the current trade professions that we can accredit your business for.
As a contractor you can select as many of these as you require, as long as you can demonstrate ongoing competency against each one.
Supplier monitoring
A requirement for a Salus membership is to provide current and valid insurance, relevant trading certificates and accompanying compliance evidence.
If expired or lapsed, you will receive reminders to update your details. Should you not update your information, notification will be provided to all relevant buyers.
Trading and financial information is also monitored in order to obtain the most recent and up to date information.
